For 35 years, the organization has pursued that mission through award-winning documentary film — bringing distant environmental realities to audiences in the United States and around the world, and turning them into public understanding.
Recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity, Global Survival Inc is governed by its leadership with full accountability to the public we serve.

Leigh Wharton1924 – 2017 · Founder & Documentary Filmmaker
Global Survival Inc grew out of the life’s work of Leigh Wharton (1924–2017) — British-born, a Royal Air Force veteran of the Second World War, and a Broadway and Off-Broadway actor who devoted the second half of his career to documentary film.
Wharton directed 33 documentaries on humanitarian and environmental crises across the developing world, built on first-hand reporting from the ground rather than distant narration. His film Edge of Survival — which he wrote, directed, and photographed — won the World Hunger Media Award, was a finalist at the American Film Festival, and aired nationally as a PBS prime-time special.
Global Survival Inc carries that work forward — examining environmental destruction and sustainable development across the developing world, and completing its latest documentary, now in post-production.
